Supreme Court Upholds Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ARA)
On June 28, the Supreme Court held that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ARA) is constitutional. The Court also clarified that while the Medicaid expansion is constitutional, the federal government cannot withhold existing Medicaid funds from states for non-compliance with the ACA provisions that expand coverage.
By upholding the law, the uncertainty about governmental programs to advance greater care coordination in the delivery of healthcare and quality-based payment reforms, supported by health IT, is removed.
